Pokey the snail, was carvd out of a piece of black-cherry wood felled in a storm on the back woodlot. Carved in a humorous cartoon like style the snail embellishes the staircase while adding stiffness to the handrail. |
The moonface at right is carved into an antique wooden headboard, from an art-deco style twin bed. The design of the bed lent itself well to the "bedtime-eyes" moon and stars theme for this whimsical wall hanger. Such carvings can be executed on many existing objects, or the "canvas" can be built to order. |

The carved eagle head, at left is part of the floor joist of the adjacent upper floor loft and is about 10 feet above the main floor. A spotlight was installed to illuminate it as a highlight alongside a floor to ceiling stone fireplace. |
